Not a radical, Kalantari-Johnson is a steady hand

Updated: May 22, 2022

By Dan Coughlin

With Ryan Coonerty’s departure as 3rd District Santa Cruz County Supervisor, there are three candidates running for this important position in our June election: Justin Cummings, Ami Chen Mills and Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently held a candidate forum during which Justin and Ami spent an hour positioning themselves as radically leftward in an attempt to garner the DSA endorsement. The moderator espoused the DSA view of police “as anti-labor, anti-poor… and racist.” A panel member openly advocated for “suppressing” political opposition with Ami herself stressing the “importance for leftists to take power.”

Cummings, a registered Democratic Socialist, also wants to “take on capitalism.” It’s all there on YouTube.

More divisive policies and more taxes targeted at homeowners.

If you want a steady hand at the helm, I encourage you to review Kalantari-Johnson’s list of endorsements from respected city and community leaders.
